The Joy of Painting

Mother
I am always fascinated by the symbols that come forward in a painting. The more I allow the flow and try not to control the narrative, the more rich and intuitive the message. I always begin a painting with music playing. The music gets me out of my head and into my heart. It also loosens up the body to allow for a full range of motion. When I tap into that freedom of movement, images start to flow onto the canvas. It’s fascinating to look at the canvases as they are drying. A message or story always emerges. On one very productive day I could barely keep up with the flow of paint. As I looked at what had come through on the canvas it was obvious that there were images of mother and child and fetus in the womb. Being a mother of three (grown children) I thought I was tapping into my own maternal experiences. It wasn’t until a few days later that I realized what guided message was coming through in the paintings. My son and daughter-in-law were expecting our first grandchild. Coincidence? Maybe.
Beautiful message? Absolutely.
